Attention: All San Francisco Blue Jays

Although 99% of all Blue Jays nest on the East Coast, there are still a few of us who remember sailing our boats on Lake Merritt with our Dads out here on the West Coast during the '60s. Our original boat, #987 "Scoopy" is long gone. But I've restored #888 "Condor" and now sail monthly out of Berkeley. If there are any other Blue Jay skippers still flitting around Northern California who would like to try and reconstitute a local flock, please contact me and let's try and coordinate flight plans.

12/27/07 14 Foot Blue Jay Sailboat made out of wood at Jubilee Yacht Club, located Beverly Massachusetts in 1982. Built by an old sailor from Prince Edward Island, Canada. Boat was built but never used because he was busy with other sailing vessels. Boat is in pristine condition (never used and has been living in basement of home in Wenham, Massachusetts). Nicely varnished floorboards. There are no problems and comes with everything (sails - main and spinicker, nice/new mast and boom, lines,). Boat rigged and ready to go. Trailer included if needed (however it is older and cannot be used for LONG distances). Asking price is $1600. Please call Bernie Power if interested at 978-500-5814(cell phone) or 978-468-2722(home). Can also email daughter Bethany .

10/11/07 Indianapolis Needs Your Unwanted Bluejay Hardware: Last year a small group of us (from the Eagle Creek Park Foundation) brought 4 Bluejays from New Jersey's River Rats Club to get a youth sailing program going within the Park. The Park's reservoir is central Indiana's only designated sailing water (motors must not exceed 10 HP). It's a great light air lake and the folks of the PHRF cruising class yacht club outside the Park have hosted several one-design events. This season we started our program, but are still hardy recognized in Indianapolis Parks' budget. Of course, we're a long way from the heart of the Bluejay world and the corn belt does not create much of a nautical network.

We've got a good team of boat maintenance volunteers and the City funds basic maintenance supplies (fiberglass, resin, gelcoat, paint, etc.). The River Rats guys were generous with extra sails and rudders. But, getting funding for Bluejay specific hardware is currently impossible. For example, we're desperate for bailers and since we're not staying religiously within class specifications for racing, even the old style bailers would be gold to us. If the Bluejay community would like to put their unnneded rigging and deck hardware back to good use, we'd be very pleased to accept it. I can offer a tax deduction letter good on your federal return and we have passed the hat among ourselves to reimburse shipping costs. Thanks in advance for the effort of digging through your basements or boathouses.
